Two Step-Orthodox vs Bar Dance vs “Country Swing”

Two Step-Orthodox vs Bar Dance/“Country Swing” I put Country Swing in quotes because it’s not a particular dance style. It has become s catch phrase that could be any number of regional amateur dances that don’t have an actual basic step. Where people move around the floor or stationary versions of fancy moves that are largely off time and inconsiderate of the follow. Two Step Intermediate Patt...

    I think you mean, high level competitive Country Dancers. Ballroom dancers don’t do Triple Two. I would not, simply because it would make the lady’s part so difficult. I would rather encourage the lady to dance bigger, and show off her French Cross and Flair. But good question.

  • @MrBrut1234
    @MrBrut1234 Місяць тому

    On the “half left turn”, you mentioned doing a chasse while she does a French Cross, then another chasse while she does a Flare. Would most ballroom routine dancers turn any of those, into an Inline Feather to create more travel? I can really see that socially a chasse seems practical, but do most pros try to do inline feathers whenever possible to create bigger steps, even if it strains the girl?

    • @MrBrut1234
      @MrBrut1234 Місяць тому

      Ah I see, you discuss it in 8:30 I see that doing a chasse going forward or backwards only makes sense with the character of the dance as it travels down the floor. Doing a chasse sideways doesn’t really. But man, I tried it for five minutes and chasse sideways doesn’t look as pretty but it come in handy with ladies who don’t know the dance and I try to lead it socially. I feel as as Inline feather for me as the dude is beneficial as I go backwards far more than forwards due to making her commit to three steps instead of two. I also feel like an inline feather for me forward and a French cross for her seems hard to convince with her having to win down the floor and get around me. I did not understand triple two when I saw other “world champions” teach this. It felt like they were being payed to teach, but not trying to teach teach it, if that makes sense. They are just showing steps. You are breaking this down incredible, in the same way that you breakdown every other dance. I am starting to appreciate the dance far more and it’s only been about 3 hours of looking at this video over and over.

    What is the definition of a drop triple as I've never heard of it before thanks in advance

    • @DAmicoDanceHouston
      @DAmicoDanceHouston 6 місяців тому

      Hello, and thank you for watching and commenting. A drop triple is a term that I used to describe dropping back, bracing yourself on the ball of the three, then replacing on and, with or without rotation on a passing pattern and then stepping on the four. It is the only step on basic six and eight account patterns where the heel should not strike the ground due to the foot being out from under the body. The purpose of the drop is to brace you and send you forward onto the end, not to go backwards. Let me know if you need further explanation. Thanks again!

    Question: full steps on the quick-quick? Not a step-together-step? Is this the way you’ve always done it? Or did you switch over from the latter to the former at some point? If so, why? I never saw anyone do it that way back in the day (early 80’s in Denver, for me)

    • @jamey9758

      @@DAmicoDanceHouston I would, actually! I’m a dance nerd, and I teach big classes in my locale. For everything gained there’s something lost, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around how that change in footwork, from a step together to a passing step, was worth changing the feel of the dance. Many thanks for your attention! I really have enjoyed your videos, and your personality - which some around here say is not unlike my own . . . 😁

      I have people sign up for 6 week courses, 1 class/week, pay in advance, for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, and only accept equal numbers of men and women, (or I should say, follows and leads; some women want to be leaders, especially in same sex couples, of course). I also have a dancer “survey”, so I can match partners by age, height, and dance experience, as much as possible. This partnership is very fluid; we change and rotate partners like crazy during the classes. I think it greatly accelerates the learning process, and builds community
